Nexus EQ is not just a conference about emotional intelligence -- it is an emotionally intelligent conference. It is not just a place for ideas -- it is a place for feelings, for fun, wonder, optimism, and for change. Come to a NexusEQ conference, and you will bring back tools, ideas, and resolve to improve the core elements of your personal and professional life.
"Nexus" means "crossroads" or "connection." This conference is a place where ideas and best-practice come together. You will meet people from all walks of life with a shared commitment to changing the world, one relationship at a time.
Working around the world building emotional intelligence, I have found that when we bring people from a variety of sectors together, there is a powerful synergy. Participants realize that in all walks of life, and all over the world, people are struggling with a similar challenge: helping people be and do their best in a safe, positive atmosphere. NexusEQ supports people to come together and strengthen their resolve and their skills for this critical mission.
NexusEQ is about meeting pressing problems, forming sustainable solutions, and inventing a future where people can be and do their best. We use the tools of emotional intelligence, but the purpose goes beyond "emotional development for its own sake." The focus is on outcomes: Improving performance, enhancing leaderhip, increasing learning, healing people, unlocking capacities, creating peace.
The conference series was created by a team of EQ experts and leaders working in collaboration. From the outset, we have been committed to building NexusEQ as a forum where different points of view can converge -- a level playing field for a wide variety of emotional intelligence practitioners and allies. To achieve that goal, we keep inviting a wide spectrum of experts to participate in NexusEQ -- we're looking to discover and share best practices, not to promote a particular group or model. To understand the philosophical approach behind the conference, please read these notes from our planning meetings where teams of EQ experts joined forces to envision a learning experience that would meet the audacious goal of building an emotionally intelligent future.
On May 5-7, 2000, we hosted the worlds top authors, experts, and educators in the fields of emotional intelligence (EQ) and emotional health for a remarkable conference. Presenters included Robert Cooper, Martin Seligman, Peter Salovey, Candace Pert, Bruce Cryer, Anabel Jensen, Claude Steiner, and many other ground-breaking innovators critical to keeping you on the cutting edge.
On June 19-21, 2002, we partnered to create another groundbreaking event -- the first African Emotional Intelligence conference in Durban, South Africa.
On May 28-30, 2003, the Nova NexusEQ Conference delivered best practices in Human Resources, Education, and Health.
The 2004 Emotional Intelligence Conference in Orlando focused on supporting the EQ advocates and practitioners around the world. A hands-on, interactive conference, the event offered the latest research, tools, and strategies that are working to develop sustainable change. This conference led to the launch of the EQ Alliance.
In 2005, the First Emotional Intelligence World Summit brings together EQ experts from 18 countries to share best practices and current research to improve leadership in organizations and schools. Hosted in partnership with the Dutch National School Improvement organization, APS, the conference is targetted to 300 delegates from 25 nations.
Nexus is about how to practically apply ground breaking research to increase inclusion, productivity, and success while reducing apathy, violence, despair, and underachievement. Educators, executives, counselors, administrators, professors, students, and trainers from around the world gather to share the broad spectrum of EQ programs that are working -- and I hope you will be one of these pioneers.
